Emmy Awards' abysmal ratings

The 71st Primetime Emmy Awards on Fox drew a record low viewership on Sunday, marking a sixth straight year of decline for TV’s biggest night. Sunday’s broadcast drew a paltry 5.7 rating and a 10 share in the overnight metered market ratings, down 23 percent from last year’s Monday night show on NBC and down 30 percent from the preliminary rating for the 2017 ceremony, which aired on a Sunday night on CBS, according to  Variety . The figures represent the lowest rating the annual ceremony has achieved in early metrics. The Emmys were up against NBC’s  Sunday Night Football , which saw the Los Angeles Rams beat the Cleveland Browns in a score of 20-13. Per Nielsen fast nationals, the Emmys drew barely 6 million total viewers along with a 1.5 demo rating, down 34 and 39 percent from last year’s fast nationals. Rachel Bloom, the pregnant winner

It was a night to remember for Rachel Bloom . After winning her first Emmy at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards on Saturday, the Crazy Ex-Girlfriend star, 32, announced that she’s expecting her first child with husband Dan Gregor. Bloom, who won the Emmy for Best Original Music and Lyrics, slipped in the exciting news when asked backstage what she had planned next. “More fun stuff. I have a tour right now called, “What Am I Going To Do with My Life Now? because the question I get asked is, what are you going to do with your life now?” she told reporters, adding that she would “hopefully write more Emmy-winning songs” as well. “And also, I’m pregnant! So that’s what’s next for me,” she added, as the room burst into applause . The actress, who shared that she was three months pregnant, added that although she initially planned to make the announcement on Instagram, she “might as well do it at an Emmy press conference.” “So I get to tell my child that she was with me when this happ...

What a comeback. Norman Fucking Rockwell!, Lana Del Rey’s latest studio effort, could not be her best album (the nod still goes to the debut masterpiece Born to die/Paradise); however, NFR! is perhaps her most cohesive and direct work so far and a gigantic step forward from her 2017’s lackluster album Lust for life. Lana has aptly described the new album as a “mood record,” a heady collection of psych-rock and piano dirges that pour into each other and rarely shift tempo from track to track. “Mariners Apartment Complex,” “Cinnamon Girl,” and “Venice Bitch” amble along to hazy, psychedelic grooves, closer in spirit, if not style, to Del Rey’s breakout hit “Video Games” than the hooky singles that have followed. The downbeat, piano-led arrangements remain remarkably consistent throughout Norman Fucking Rockwell, with odd, David Lynchian touches giving the songs an almost Gothic creepiness. Lana is one of our most complicated stars, a constantly unresolvable puzzle—som...
